BUCHANAN DAM — See Artists in Action at the Buchanan Arts and Crafts Gallery.
The gallery is launching a new program with artist demonstrations to generate interest in the work of local artists and craftspeople. The initial Artists in Action program is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 9 at the gallery, 17534 Texas 29 East.
“We are considering this a sort of ‘open house’ for people to come and see how these wonderful works of art are conceived and completed,” said Barbara Manton, the Artists in Action chairwoman. “It is come-and-go, and everyone is most cordially invited.”
All ages are invited to view the demonstrations, which will include artists painting in acrylics, pastels and watercolors, craftspeople making objects by hand and other talented artisans pursuing their art forms inside and outside the gallery including scroll-saw work on the porch, felting and more.
Manton said the event possibly might feature a pyrographics (woodburning) artist. The crafter works with natural woods such as mesquite, cedar and oak.
“We really hope to have a good response from the public,” she said. “Our gallery’s artists are always willing to share their talents with other people. They welcome the opportunity to meet and greet both local residents and visitors who are interested in arts and crafts. If the (May 9) event is a success, the gallery looks forward to doing these demonstrations as often as three times a year.”
Cookies and beverages will be served during the open house.
The gallery welcomes new members. For more information, go to buchananartsandcrafts.org or call (512) 793-2858.
