LLANO — Tally Kelso says an upcoming skeet shoot fundraiser could help put the finishing touches on the John L. Kuykendall Event Center and Arena.

“We’re needing more money to finish it off,” said Kelso, president of the Llano Economic Development Corp.. “To finish it, we need more money to make it the jewel that it could be.”

The inaugural skeet shoot is May 2 at Wrights Creek Outfitter, 121 CR 413, north of Llano. People can sign up online at www.wrightscreekoutfitter.com. The cost is $60 a person.

First and second place take home coolers, while the third-place prize is a pocket knife.

After registering, participants will be assigned a time to shoot. The event will begin in the morning and go into the afternoon. Kelso said people can show up and register the day of the event but might have to wait for an open shoot time.

The 25,000-square-foot events center, located at 2200 RR 152, opened last year.

“We still lack the outside landscaping and paving, and we’d like to put a divider curtain in the event center,” Kelso said. “There’s always going to be needs — tables and chairs, to eventually put up sound boards to make the sound better for our PA system. So on and so forth.”

The events center is designed to host banquets, corporate events, weddings, dinners and art, gun and livestock shows.

As more and more events come to Llano, or consider the town, Kelso said other improvements could be needed at the events center.

“There are multiple things we could do out there,” Kelso said. “Our goal is to make everything better out there in many areas. It’s an ongoing process.”
