Ruth Marie Weathers, 98, of Kingsland passed away March 5, 2015. She was a daughter of Edward George and Helen (Haase) Thompson, born on June 14, 1916, (Flag Day) in Mart, Texas. She was the eldest of seven children.

Ruth could light up a room just by entering it. She thanked God for every day and began each day with a song. She and Phil never missed a dance with the Flashbacks. Everything she was involved in turned into a party. She made cleaning out the garage, raking leaves or organizing your sock drawer fun. Her joy was contagious. She was awarded blue ribbons in more categories than can be listed here, but her children are convinced she definitely earned the Gold Star of Motherhood. She was loved by many, but none more than her late husband, Phil.

She was a member of Kingsland Community Church, Exxon Annuitants Club, the church choir, the church circle, Lakewood Forest III Club, the Culture Club of Llano and garden clubs in Houston and Kingsland. She was a Girl Scout leader, an avid bridge player and taught aerobics until the age of 90.

Ruth is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Terry Bickerton and Candy and Dan Glidden; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Patti Weathers; grandsons, Scott and Mark Bickerton and Travis Glidden; great-grandson, Ian Bickerton; sisters Jean Lee and Ann Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, Philip Weathers; brothers Charles and James “Dud” Thompson; and sisters Helen Weathers and Martha Vandiver.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. March 13 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A funeral service is 10 a.m. March 14 at Kingsland Community Church. Interment is 2:45 p.m. March 14 at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Waco.

Memorial contributions may be made to Scott & White Hospice or Kingsland Community Church.
