MARBLE FALLS — As movie goers nestle into their seats at ShowBiz Cinema in Marble Falls starting Feb. 20, they’ll see several Marble Falls High School students on the silver screen during the previews.
The students are part of a 15-second, student-produced public service announcement promoting the importance of regular school attendance. Students in teacher Matt Turner’s seventh-period audio/visual class produced the segment.
The PSA is already in circulation on various social media outlets.
This is the first of several student-produced projects highlighting the importance of school attendance. The PSAs will be updated throughout the year.
The idea of student-produced attendance PSAs is the result of the district focusing on providing optimal student learning time in school as well as securing maximum state funding to support teachers and staff with needed learning resources, officials said.
“We all know that if students are not in school that it is physically impossible for them to learn,” principal Manny Lunoff said. “Matt Turner’s seventh-period A/V class thought of some other reasons why it’s important for kids to come to school every day.”
Along with this project, Career and Technology Education students in the advanced audio/visual class are producing “The Mane,” a student news program. The production allows students to learn skills they’ll use in the workforce or in college-level communication classes.
To see the PSA, visit ShowBiz Cinema, 2600 U.S. 281, or check out the Marble Falls High School’s Education YouTube channel.
