On Dec. 24, 1952, she married Miles C. Leverett. Together, they raised a family before his death Dec. 9, 1982.
Upon Miles’ death, Shirley enrolled in nursing school. She graduated and became a licensed vocational nurse in March 1984. For the next 28 years, she worked as a nurse at the hospital in Llano, a cancer treatment center in Lubbock and, later, nursing homes in Llano.
She was one of the most compassionate and dedicated nurses to ever care for the patients she served. She worked as a nurse until the age of 76, setting an example for those much younger than her and leaving an impact on many, many lives.
On July 24, 1987, she married William J. “Dub” Todd in Lubbock, Texas. He preceded her in death.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kathy Baker and husband Richard of Llano; son, Sammy Leverett and wife Tracy of Llano; grandchildren, Ricky Baker, Michael Baker, Matt Baker and wife Teresa, Jordan Leverett, and Jessica Leverett; great-grandchildren, Theron, Zach, Mason and Sidney Baker, Heavenly and Hanna Baker, Drew, Sterling and Weston Baker, Calvin Taylor and wife Heather, and Claire, Caroline, Cameron, Calvin, Camielle, Callahan and Catie Taylor; sister-in-law, Myrtle Holland; dear friend, Vaughn Howell; dog, Tippy; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Nola Holland; brother Foley Holland; Danny Taylor; and granddaughter Lori Baker.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Dec. 22 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A funeral service is 10 a.m. Dec. 23 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dale Strawn officiating. Burial will follow at Bluffton Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Baker, Michael Baker, Matt Baker, Theron Baker, Zach Baker, Mason Baker, Drew Baker, Weston Baker, Jordon Leverett, Calvin Taylor and Andy Kolb.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church or the Llano Junior Livestock Association.
