Burnet volleyball loses first-round match to Navarro

BOERNE — The Burnet High School volleyball team’s season ended with a 1-3 loss to Navarro in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs Nov. 4.

The Lady Panthers (31-13 overall) won 25-27, 25-17, 25-22, 25-6.

The Lady Dawgs (16-13) took the first set thanks in part to senior Sarah Poe, who gave them set point on a block. The set ended on a hitting error. Burnet led 9-3 before the Lady Panthers responded. They outscored Burnet to take a 17-12 lead. A kill by junior Jill Rosow helped Burnet regain the advantage.

The second set was all Navarro. The Lady Panthers led by as much as 8-1 before Rosow recorded a kill. Burnet got to within three points but no closer as Navarro won 25-17.

The Lady Dawgs began the third set with a 3-0 advantage. But Navarro outscored Burnet for an 11-7 lead. From there, Navarro never trailed again. Burnet saved one set point, but it wasn’t enough.

The Lady Panthers kept the momentum in the final set, building a 9-1 lead before junior Madison Hall spiked a ball off a block. Rosow had a kill that went through a block for a point, and junior Kylah Arnold scored the
last point of the season on a kill.
