Donald Gene Holland, 83, of Marble Falls dies Oct. 17, 2014

Donald Gene “Don” Holland, 83, of Marble Falls, Texas, passed away Oct. 17, 2014, at Houston Hospice after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Marble Falls on Aug. 20, 1931, the eighth child of Bessie Mariah and Marshall N. Holland.
Don graduated from Marble Falls High School and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. His sister Anna Ruth Holland Wilde was a significant support and influence in his life, education and career. Don spent most of his life in Midland working in the oil and gas industry.
He married Carolyn Gray in 1957 and raised two children, Mark and Gaye, and two grandchildren, Crystal and Garrit.
Don spent the last years of his life as he loved — in Marble Falls near brother Fred Holland and family, working his land with his grandson, Garrit. Don was very influential in many people’s lives and will be terribly missed and fondly remembered forever.
Don was preceded in death by parents, Marshall and Bessie; three sisters Claudia, Anna Ruth and Lois; and three brothers Jay, Malcolm and Dudley.
He is survived by his children, Mark Holland of Houston and Gaye Skiles of Midland; grandchildren, Crystal Chapman of Midland and Garrit Skiles of Stephenville; and brother Fred Holland of Marble Falls.
A visitation for family and friends was Oct. 20. A funeral service is 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Marble Falls.
The family sends special thanks to Houston Hospice for the excellent care and consideration the staff gave to Don and his family members. They were thoughtful at all times and did their best to make his last days as comfortable for him as possible.
