Faith Academy cross country gets in practice run for state meet
FROM STAFF REPORTS
GOLDTHWAITE — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls cross-country team finished eighth at the Priddy Invitational on Oct. 15.
“This was the perfect size race for us,” Faith head coach Steve McCannon said. “The number of runners and teams at this meet mirrors the same numbers we should see at (the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class 3A) state meet.”
Sophie McCannon won her fifth consecutive race this season, clocking 11 minutes and 47 seconds for a new personal best.
“She is firing on all cylinders,” said coach McCannon, who is also her father. “She will peak at state and have a strong performance. She is ready.”
Danyelle Morris took a full minute off her time.
“That is exactly what we needed, and she can be the difference at state,” McCannon said. “The state meet will come down to the fourth and fifth runners. I think Danyelle can drop another 20 to 30 seconds. She is peaking at the right time.”
He also noted Sierra Brinkley ran well, while Kristina Lane was solid. They can only help the Lady Flames at the state meet, the coach said.
“We look forward to the state meet and the chance to contend for the state championship both as a team and Sophie individually,” McCannon said. “It is not often a team has a chance at both, so I am very fired up about that.”
