BUCHANAN DAM — Highland Lakes United Methodist Church is a meeting place for a variety of groups in the area.
Working to provide for the spiritual needs of the community, the church decided to cover the health needs as well.
The church is hosting a free health fair Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Nineteen exhibitors will take part in the health fair, covering issues literally from head to toe.
“If people have a need, whatever it is, they can have that service locally,” said Bonnie Wallace, a church member who is helping coordinate the health fair.
The Air Evac helicopter is scheduled to be next to the church. Scott & White Healthcare will provide skin cancer screenings, and Seton Healthcare will test blood-sugar glucose levels.
Most exhibitors are from the Highland Lakes area. The farthest comes from Austin.
A full list includes:
- Scott & White Healthcare
- Seton Highland Lakes Hospital
- Atkins Pharmacy
- Air Evac
- Burnet Eye Care
- Robert Sawyer, DDS
- Juice Plus+
- Arbor House Assisted Living
- Owens Periodontics
- Hill Country Health Store
- Kingsland Massage Depot
- Thrive Food Consultants
- Protea Skin Spa
- Gram Grams Homemade Jams
- Connect Hearing
- Family Heritage

The first 250 people at the health fair will receive a “goodie bag” full of health-related materials.
The event is free to attend, and free to the exhibitors.
“It’s strictly a community outreach program,” Wallace said. “As long as people want to come, exhibitors want to exhibit.”
