BURNET — A $13,800 anonymous donation will go toward the Burnet High School football and volleyball teams.

The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District accepted the money during its regular meeting Sept. 15.

The donor wanted the money to be equally split between the football and volleyball programs.

“I think each program has their desires of what they’d like to use it for,” athletic director Kurt Jones said. “Legally, we cannot earmark something like that.”

He said coaches are still reviewing their wish lists in an effort to maximize how much they can purchase with the donation.

The money will not be used for travel or meal expenses. Jones said the athletic department already budgeted for those costs before the school year started.

“It’ll be for equipment for both boys and girls (teams),” Jones said. “The donor was very much wanting to do for both boys and girls.”

The board must approve donations of $5,000 or more, according to BCISD bylaws.

“We both have needs we can use the money for,” Jones said. “It’s a great thing to have a person in the community to step up and give.”
