VOLLEYBALL: Marble Falls opens district with loss; Burnet 1-1 vs. Jarrell, Gatesville

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team began District 25-5A play with a loss to Georgetown East View 20-25, 15-25, 15-25 on Sept. 12.

“The girls performed well in many aspects of the game, but inconsistencies and errors resulted in losses for the Lady Mustangs,” head coach Julie Downs said. 

Marble Falls began the match with an 8-22 deficit when Baylee Adams stepped to the line to serve. By the time she finished, the Lady Mustangs trimmed the deficit to 18-22.

Downs said the rallies continued, but the Patriots scored enough for the victory.

The Lady Mustangs continued stayed in rhythm for the second set and trailed only 9-12 after the first rotation. But a serve-receive pattern allowed East View to move on for the win.

The final set was highlighted by errors, attacks that went out of bounds, setting and serving mistakes.

The subvarsity teams played in the Wimberley Tournament on Sept. 11 and 13. The junior varsity qualified for the gold consolation bracket, while the freshmen played in the bronze bracket.

The junior varsity defeated Burnet 25-18, 25-20, Wimberley 25-15, 25-21 and Comfort  25-12, 25-22 but lost to Fredericksburg 14-25, 25-18, 10-25.   

The freshmen defeated the Hays B team Hays “B”: 25-15, 25-18 and lost to San Marcos 25-15, 11-25, 24-26 and Dripping Springs  25-16, 15-25 and 19-25

Burnet beats Jarrell; loses to Gatesville

BURNET — The Burnet High School volleyball went 1-1 in matches played Sept. 9 and 12.

The Lady Dawgs defeated Jarrell  25-16,25-9, 22-25, 25-20 but lost to Gatesville 21-25, 17-25, 15-25.
