John ‘Jay’ Strickland, 79, dies Sept. 9, 2014
John “Jay” Strickland, 79, passed away Sept. 9, 2014, after a journey with pancreatic cancer. Jay was a 1962 graduate of the University of Houston, a former narcotics investigator with the Houston Police Department, a senior district sales manager for GM and an independent associate for Legal Shield. He was an area governor for Toastmasters International, with which he achieved the highest level of Distinguished Toastmaster, and he was a former consultant and trainer for Dale Carnegie.
Most important, he was a loving son, father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend.
Jay is survived by his wife, Aurelia “Rae” Sell; daughter Joy; son Monte and wife Liz; daughter Jill and husband Sam; son Brett and partner Diane; daughter Tammy and husband Mark; Eric and Esther Sell; Heidi and Roger Moore and Jill and Shane Demmer; as well as 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited 2 p.m. Sept. 12 and a memorial Mass is 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Horseshoe Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jay’s name to St. Thomas High School, 4500 Memorial
Drive, Houston, TX 77007.
