COTTONWOOD SHORES – The Cottonwood Shores City Council cleared the way Aug. 21 for a new business to come to town.
The council released easements in six lots on FM 1431 for a Dollar General.
The business will be on the north side of FM 2147 and west of the current buildings on that road.
Also on the agenda, the council sent a contract to the Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department for the 2014 fiscal year. The contract is for $33,000 – the same as last year’s amount.
Mayor Pro Tem Stephen Sherry said the dollar amount could increase next year.
“Please understand that if the budget can be maintained at last year’s funding, more generous funds will be available next year,” Sherry said.
The volunteer department will vote on whether to sign it or not before it can return to the council for its signature.
The city also held its first public hearing on a proposed tax increase to 54.38 cents per $100 valuation. One more public hearing will be held before the council votes on the proposed rate.
