Four Horseshoe Bay candidates file for three city council spots

FROM STAFF REPORTS

HORSESHOE BAY — Four candidates — including two incumbents — have filed to run for three at-large positions on the city council during the upcoming election in November, according to city filing records.

The filing deadline for Horseshoe Bay City Council ended Aug. 19.

Incumbents David Pope and Craig Haydon filed to run again. Newcomers Donald Beeman and Jerry Gray threw their hats in the ring as well.

The top three vote getters win the election.

Incumbent Tom Schmersahl chose not to run again. However, Schmersahl was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Steve Jordan, who defeated Schmersahl to win the mayor’s race Nov. 5.

Candidates are scheduled to draw for places on the ballot at 9 a.m. Aug. 21 at Horseshoe Bay City Hall, 1 Community Drive.

Early voting is Oct. 20-31. The election is Nov. 4.
