BURNET — The Burnet High School 7-on-7 varsity football team now knows who it will face at the Division II state tournament.

The tournament begins July 10 at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex, 3101 Harvey Road in College Station.

The Bulldogs are in pool G at field 7. Game 1 is against Kinkaid at 1 p.m. with a second game against Mexia at 3 p.m. and a third versus Palmer at 5 p.m. Two teams from each pool advance to the championship bracket

Counting this year, Burnet has nine state tournament appearances.

In addition, the Bulldogs already hit the magic number of 30 this summer.

That’s 30 wins against three losses since beginning play in its own league May 5.

Burnet went 12-0 at its own May league and 7-1 at the Georgetown Passing League. In the state-qualifying tournaments at Lorena, Gatesville, Austin Westlake and their own event, the Bulldogs are 11-2.

The Bulldogs have succeeded while senior Taylor Barksdale and junior Austin Moore vie for the starting quarterback position.

“We’re seeing them do a lot of good things,” Burnet head coach Kurt Jones said. “They’re still making some mistakes here and there, and we knew that. There are things we’ll work on to get better.”
