BERTRAM — While the first day of summer isn’t officially until June 21, that doesn’t mean anything in Central Texas. With temperatures already in the mid- to upper 90s and schools out, for all intents and purposes, it’s summer in the Highland Lakes.

And what better way to cool off than with a dip in the pool. If you don’t have a backyard oasis in this Texas heat, don’t fear. Several local communities offer great places for school-free kids to burn off some of that pent-up energy.

So, without further adieu, here’s a list of some of the local pools and water parks available for summer fun.

BERTRAM

The pool, located off Texas 29 on the west edge of town, is open through Aug. 15. Hours are 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Entry is $2 per person. It is available for parties. Call (512) 355-2197 for more information.

A non-member day pass is $5 for individuals 18 and older (includes pool and facility); $3 for youth 3-17 (includes pool and facility); and free for kids younger than 3. The pool facility is available for rent. Go to www.ymcagwc.org/burnet for a complete pool schedule and rental information.
