Staff Sgt. James S. Bowen, retired, of Burnet, Texas, born Sept. 19, 1940, and passed away May 19, 2014, at Seton Williamson Hospital.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Bonnie Bowen; brothers Frank and Bill Bowen; sisters Doris Estep and Judy Williams; son-in-law Scott Jordan; and the two loves of his life, Loretta Bowen and Kathy Bowen.

James is survived by daughters, Lidwina Hodges and husband Jimmy of West Virginia, Sydney Robinson and husband John of Pennsylvania and Patti Jordan of Texas; son, Michael Holcomb and wife Rachel of Texas; sisters Effie Jordan of Texas and Sandy Brightwell of West Virginia; and brother Daniel Bowen of Ohio. James also had the wonderful joy of six granddaughters, five grandsons, two great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

James was raised in St. Albans, W.Va., until he enlisted at the age of 17 in the U.S. Army. After serving his country for 20-plus years, including stents in Vietnam, James retired and found his home in Burnet, where he resided from 1987 until his death May 19, 2014.

A service is 10 a.m. May 24 at First Lutheran Church of Burnet.
