LLANO — You name it, and Llano will have it Memorial Day weekend for its annual Blue Bell and Bluegrass Festival.
Of course, there will be Blue Bell ice cream and bluegrass music, as well as a classic car show, a golf tournament, a cobbler contest and a sampling of the best food Llano has to offer.
This is the first year for the cobbler contest.
“It’s something that’s just a ‘gimme’ to go with the ice cream,” event co-chair Susan Cox said. “After judging, we’ll set the cobblers up and give away samples of the different cobblers.”
The cobbler contest drop-off is 11 a.m. May 24 at the south entrance of the Llano County Courthouse, 801 Ford St.
Everything kicks off May 23. First is the Taste of Llano at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 200 Legion St., featuring fares from more than a dozen Llano restaurants and wine from Fall Creek Vineyards. Entrance is $5 or two non-perishable food items. Taste of Llano is a fundraiser for the Llano Food Pantry.
From there, you can dance off all the food and drink from 8 p.m. to midnight with Western swing music on Haynie Street.
Bands again take the stage at 10 a.m. and vendors open at 9 a.m. on the square May 24. The music and vendors last until about 5:30 p.m.
While strolling the vendors and enjoying the music, classic cars also will line the street.
Registration for the car show is 9-11 a.m., and the cars will be on display until 4 p.m., when trophies will be handed out.
“We’re expecting, if we’re conservative, 40 to as many as 60 cars,” said Diana Winningham, car show coordinator. “It seems each year we’re growing a little bit.”
At 5:30 p.m., the cars take to the road for a cruise beginning at the courthouse and ending at Badu House, 601 Bessemer St. There, bluegrass music continues into the night.
After a day of music, cars and food, the festivities continue May 25.
Golfers take to the Llano River Golf Club at 9 a.m. for a four-person scramble tournament. To register, call (325) 247-5100.
At the courthouse, a devotional service begins at 8 a.m. followed by more bluegrass music 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The car club competition judging begins at 11 a.m. until the awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
