Marble Falls voters OK local alcohol option; Whitman returns to council

FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls voters raised their glasses for a toast May 10 after passing a local option that allows the expansion of alcohol sales inside the city limits.

The measure passed 364-127.

The passage allows businesses, including Save the World Brewing Co., to sell beer and alcohol on site. Previously, the area within the city that businesses could sell alcohol for on-site consumption was limited.

Owners of the new brewery discovered the issue when they attempted to apply for an alcohol-serving permit. While they could still make, bottle and ship beer from their location in the Business and Technology Park in the northern reaches of the city, they couldn’t sell it for on-site consumption.

The passage of the local option allows the city council to expand the area where this can now occur.

In the city council race, former Marble Falls Mayor Raymond Whitman will return to the council. He beat incumbent council member John Packer, 236-216, for Place 5.

Richard Lewis and Reed Norman easily won their re-election since neither drew an opponent.

These are the unofficial results and only become official after the council canvasses the votes.
