Coffee Talks series features children’s author Nikki Loftin

BURNET — Award-winning author Nikki Loftin will share what she has learned in her career writing for children May 8 at the Herman Brown Free Library.

The presentation is part of the library’s free Coffee Talks series.

The program is 2 p.m. at the library, 100 E. Washington, with refreshments served at 1:30 p.m. Early arrival is advised.

Loftin is the author of the recently released “Nightingale’s Nest,” a re-imagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Nightingale.” Her “The Sinister Sweetness of Splendid Academy” is the story of a young girl whose seemingly delightful new school hides frightening secrets. Both novels are for middle school-aged readers.

Books will be available for sale and autograph.

Loftin is the last speaker in this year’s Coffee Talks series. On June 12, the library will offer a special presentation by Amanda Danning, an artist who uses forensic techniques to reconstruct historic finds. Coffee Talks will resume in September.
