Anita Renfroe bringing her ‘muthahood’ wisdom to Burnet

DANIEL CLIFTON • PICAYUNE EDITOR

BURNET — From time to time, ladies just need a night out, so Hill Country Fellowship Church is offering just that —with a good twist.

The church, 200 Houston Clinton Drive, is holding A Girls Night Out starting at 6:30 p.m. May 4 with author and comedian Anita Renfroe headlining the event.

The Atlanta mom has taken the world of motherhood to the stage with her comedy routine, and it has landed her on several national TV shows. She is one of the most in-demand speakers on the circuit.

“Anita puts on a wonderful program,” said Jeanette Mayer of the church. “She’s funny, but she also brings a message. And it’s a message that really connects with women.”

Renfroe’s success comes from her ability to take things that occur in just about every woman’s life, put a comedic twist on it and then spin it back to audiences in a relatable way. She has even managed to create a routine based on the things a mother tells her children.

Renfroe was a stay-at-home mom but discovered a comedy outlet by posting her pieces on YouTube. Soon, she grew a nice following, which got her more attention and invites to national TV shows.

The video of her song “In Tha Muthahood” has managed more than 600,000 views on YouTube.

Mayer said the church holds a program in May, specifically around Mother’s Day, to give women a night out, enjoy fellowship and hear an uplifting and positive message.

“We try to keep it around $10 or so, so it’s affordable,” Mayer said.

Tickets for the entire event, which includes a dinner before Renfroe’s performance, have sold out, but women can still purchase seats for Renfroe’s program for $5 each. Tickets are available at www.hcfburnet.org under the “What’s Happening” link, at the church office or at the door the day of the event.

“It’s just a night to come out, relax and have fun,” Mayer said.
