LAMPASAS — The Burnet High School baseball team remained atop the District 8-3A standings with a 4-0 win against Lampasas on March 28.

The Bulldogs (11-7-3 overall, 4-0 district) scored a run in the third inning, two in the fifth and five in the sixth. In all, Burnet recorded nine hits, while the Badgers committed six errors.

Defensively, Burnet pitcher Cameron Chafin gave up a total of three hits and recorded 15 first-pitch strikes.

“Cameron threw a lot of strikes,” Burnet head coach Steven Shipley said. “And, when you can do that, it keeps your defense ready behind you, and it forces bad swings at the plate.”

Shipley said, when the offense gives a pitcher the lead, it makes it easier for the entire defense.

“We treat it as a chance to be very aggressive and to challenge hitters,” he said. “That’s why we try to get out in the field and back in the dugout as quickly as we can so we can go hit again.”
