Marble Falls Army major and family inviting community to promotion ceremony
FROM STAFF REPORTS
MARBLE FALLS — When U.S. Army Maj. J. Micheal “Mike” Williams, his wife, Royann, and their family transferred to Germany about a year ago, they told folks they hoped to return to the Marble Falls area some day.
After a year in Germany, the family did return to the Marble Falls area and are now inviting community members to attend Williams’ promotion ceremony at 6 p.m. March 29 at First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, 501 12th St.
Williams, a 22-year member of the Army, will be promoted to lieutenant colonel.
“The community was so wonderful to us when we lived here before,” Royann Williams said. She referred to a community send-off when her husband deployed to Iraq on one deployment and a reception when he returned. “This community means just so much to us.”
Mike Williams is currently assigned to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where he is also receiving treatment for a traumatic brain injury he received while deployed in Turkey.
The family is in the process of resettling in the Marble Falls area, but they are still waiting on home items and other things to arrive from Germany.
The family had about a week to prepare for the promotion ceremony and didn’t have time to send out invitations, so Royann said they are inviting anyone who wants to attend.
“Usually, these are done on Army bases, but we got permission to hold it here because we love this community and want to share it with everyone,” she said.
