Marble Falls VFW giving boost to to World War II vet with barbecue fundraiser
FROM STAFF REPORTS
MARBLE FALLS — Every time the Marble Falls VFW needed something, it could count on member Joe Doze and his wife, Ethy, to lend a hand. In fact, the Dozes have been willing to help out for community events and organizations throughout the years.
Now, the Marble Falls VFW Post 10376 is turning the tables on the couple and lending them a hand.
On March 29, the post is holding a benefit for the Dozes starting at 1 p.m. at the VFW and its park, 1001 Veterans Ave. The Dozes have fallen on some rough times of their own, post officials said, and members want to give them a boost with this fundraiser.
Joe Doze is a World War II veteran who served on the U.S.S. Bunker Hill CVS-17. He has spent a great deal of time assisting other veterans. Ethy Doze worked for Mustang Equipment in Marble Falls until she was 75, but, soon after retiring, she became sick.
Both are in a nursing home right now, but VFW post members are working to make the couple’s home wheel-chair accessible.
The post is offering barbecue plates at $10 each during the event. There will be live music starting at 3 p.m. featuring Wake Eastman during the day with Southern Comfort following up at night.
There also will be an auction including a new chain saw and a grill.
