BROWNWOOD — The Burnet High School softball team lost 3-2 to Brownwood to begin District 8-3A play March 13.
The Lady Dawgs (12-6 overall, 0-1district) trailed 2-0 in the first inning. They plated a run in the fifth and another in the seventh. But they stranded two runners in scoring position in their final at-bat. Landree Thompson picked up an RBI.
“We had a lot of hard-hit balls,” Burnet head coach Corey Bledsoe said. “It just so happened that we hit it right to them. We have to cut down strikeouts.”
Brownwood pitcher Alyson Finnigan struck out 12.
Meanwhile, the Lady Lions (13-4, 1-0) scored only one earned run off nine hits. Ashley Gomez had a solo home run in the sixth inning, which turned out to be the winning run. The Lady Dawgs committed three errors.
“(Brownwood) played well,” Bledsoe said. “They got up early and made the plays they needed to make. Very good pitcher.”
