CEDAR PARK — The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team is qualified for the playoffs thanks to a 1-1 tie against Cedar Park Vista Ridge on March 7.

The Mustangs are assured of finishing no worse than fourth in District 51-4A.

“I’m very proud of my boys, they have worked hard to get here,” head coach Rick Hoover said. “They also realize we need to work harder. Getting in the playoffs was only one of our present goals.”

Marble Falls scored first midway through the second half against the Rangers but gave up a goal off a corner kick in the final minute.

“We got some work to do,” Hoover said. “Yeah it was an ugly goal. We didn’t clear well and deflected.”

The Mustangs will finish the regular season in a home game against Leander Rouse on March 18.

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team lost to Cedar Park Vista Ridge 3-0 on March 7.
The Lady Rangers took a 1-0 lead at the half.Meanwhile, the Lady Mustangs attacked throughout the second half. But when Vista Ridge had a chance to increase its lead, it did.

Running down a ball past midfield, the Lady Rangers kicked the ball from the right side to the left corner for a 2-0 advantage with 12 minutes 5 seconds remaining.

The final goal came almost 7 minutes later when a bouncing ball found the back of the net on the left side.

Head coach Trey Young said the last two goals were especially difficult for him because the Lady Rangers capitalized the way he told his players how to defend.

“We talked about exactly what they’re trying to do,” he said. “And they came out and scored.”

Still, he commended his team. He noted his players applied pressure throughout the game and came close to scoring several times. One was when the ball bounced on the right side, but Vista Ridge cleared the ball.

Had the Lady Mustangs gotten the equalizer, the coach believes the outcome might have been different.

“We have to sink those against good teams,” he said.

The last time the two teams played, Vista Ridge won 8-0 on Feb. 18.

“I thought they had to earn everything (March 7),” he said. “I thought we played smart. We’re not quite there yet. It’s an improvement. It was a lot closer than the score sheet shows.”

RECORDS: Marble Falls is 7-8-5 and 1-8 in District 51-4A
