ROUND ROCK — The Burnet High School softball team lost 5-4 to Round Rock Cedar Ridge on March 7.

The Lady Dawgs trailed 5-0 until the fourth inning. Burnet scored four runs in the fifth highlighted by two hits from Vanessa Escamilla.

“Good to see that we kept fighting,” Burnet head coach Corey Bledsoe said. “Got back in it. Just a little too late.”

He commended his players for not quitting. Burnet had more hits than Cedar Ridge but also committed two errors to its opponent’s one.

“It’s good to see some struggles and to see that we kept our composure,” Bledsoe said. “The girls made adjustments, played sound defense and pitched well. It’s good to see a tough opponent like that and to see a bit of a ‘dogfight.’ Really brings out your character and shows the team identity.”

Bledsoe said he’ll continue to use all four of his pitchers throughout the season, and he believes that’s an advantage.

“I am confident to use them at any given time,” he said. “It keeps the opponent off balance. That is a luxury to have in softball.”
