Virginia Jo Crawford was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Liberty Hill, Texas, to Jim and Pauline Smith Burleson. She passed peacefully in her sleep Feb. 28, 2014, at her home in Granbury, Texas.

She attended school in Burnet and was an active member of both the drama club and the a capella choir.

In 1948, she married Herschel Crawford and had five children. Over the years, she was a devoted wife and mother who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a homemaker and always active in her children’s activities.

The light of her eye were her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Virginia is survived by sons, Herschel Jr. and Pat Crawford of Granbury and Edward Earl and Debra Crawford of Johnson City; and daughters Virginia and Bobby Cason of Kerrville and Nancy and Dan Tomlinson of Brady.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband;  child Danna Jo; and grandson Tori Crawford.

Jo was known for her love of reading and shared that love with those around her. She also loved to visit with friends and family and was known for always being a strong figure in their lives.

She will always be remembered for her kindness toward others and strong will.

A funeral service is 2 p.m. March 4 at the Oatmeal Church of Christ in Oatmeal. Interment will follow at Oatmeal Cemetery.
