MARBLE FALLS — As members of the Burnet County chapter of the Texas Farm Bureau, Ray Cagle and Macyl Orman enjoy the annual rounds to area food pantries with checks in hands.
The two, representing the local farm bureau, stopped by The Helping Center of Marble Falls on Feb. 18 to make a donation that not only helps put food on the facility’s shelves but serves as a reminder of how affordable basic food items are in America.
“This, the third week in February, is typically the week the average worker on an average salary makes enough money to purchase basic agricultural food products for the year,” Orman said. “Now, this is the basic items such as flour, sugar, rice and beans. Things like that.”
The Helping Center of Marble Falls was only one of three stops for local farm bureau members. Along with the Marble Falls food pantry, local farm bureau members made donations to LACare in Burnet and the Briggs Baptist Church food pantry.
“We realize there are still people who need help (from food pantries), so we’re helping these food pantries out,” Orman added.
