MARBLE FALLS — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team’s season ended with a 70-33 bi-district loss to Dallas Cambridge on Feb. 18.

Cambridge rolled to a 10-0 lead in the first four minutes off a zone defense that collapsed on Faith junior forward Joseph Woods in the low block and in the lane.

Woods scored all six of the Flames’ points in the opening period, but the Lions led a 19-6 lead headed into the second quarter.

Faith would get no closer. Cambridge outscored the Flames 19-7 in the period for a 38-13 halftime lead.

Because of the 40-point deficit, a running clock was used in the final 5:40.

Still, the Flames (11-8) reached some milestones during the 2013-2014 season.

They hosted a playoff game for the first time in their history and finished in second place of the District 4-2A standings of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

The Flames suffered a 71-29 loss to district champion Waco Vanguard on Jan. 21.

Two weeks later, Faith came within a minute of beating the Vikings. Vanguard made four free throws in the closing seconds to escape with a 59-53 victory Feb. 4.

Faith head coach Randy Denton noted those achievements illustrate how much the program has matured since it was started almost 10 years ago.

“It’s another step in the right direction,” he said.
