She was the third daughter of the Alford family. Her maternal grandparents, Robert and Carrie Patterson, helped establish Bula School, where they taught for many years, and Anna’s paternal grandfather, John M. Alford, also served on the school board. Ruth Alford, Anna’s mother, also taught at Bula School, where Anna completed her first six years of school.
The family moved to Morton, Texas, in 1947 and to Lubbock, Texas, in 1953. Anna graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954. She attended Texas Tech University, where she met John K. “Johnny” Waddington. They married in 1956.
Anna was a civil service employee for most of her working life. She worked for a short time at the Navajo Ordinance Depot near Flagstaff, Ariz., and Reese Air Force Base for many years. She also worked for the Agriculture Department and sold real estate in Lubbock.
Her children, Carrie and Kevin Waddington, were born and reared in Lubbock, where Anna lived until 1994 when she moved to Denver, Colo., where her daughter Carrie (now Martin) lived. Anna moved to Marble Falls after retiring from the Pioneer Drama Co. in Denver in 2004. A
nna was actively involved in the Methodist church congregation from her early childhood in Enochs, Texas, until becoming a member of Kingsland Community Church in 2005. She was very active in the Women’s Christian Organization of Kingsland Community Church, where she was serving as president for the year 2013-2014 until her death.
Mrs. Waddington is survived by her daughter, Carrie Martin and spouse Jean Barice of Denver; son, Kevin Waddington and wife Nina of Anton; sisters Jean Wills of Santa Fe and Jimmie Webb of Kingsland; granddaughters, Danielle Garcia and husband Fabian of Anton, Adrienne Ryan and Allison Waddington, both of Anton, and Sarah Tanner and Brianna Mahoney, both of Denver; great-grandchildren, Madison Tanner of Denver, Nathaniel Benton, Ayden Garcia, Gage Garcia, Karys Garcia, Ashlyn Ryan and Augustyn Ryan, all of Anton.
Anna was loved by many and will be missed.
Anna was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Alford; father, John Alford; sister Doris Alford Jones; and former husband, Johnny Waddington.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at Kingsland Community Church, 1136 RR 1431 in Kingsland. The Revs. Dick West and Tommy Beck will officiate.
