Marble Falls ISD appoints Early school district administrator as interim middle school principal

FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls school district tapped an experienced educator and the Early Independent School District administrator to serve as the interim Marble Falls Middle School principal until a new one is named in the spring.

Marble Falls ISD superintendent Rob O’Connor announced Brett Koch will serve as the interim. Koch (pronounced Cook) will be working alongside current middle school principal John Schumacher until he leaves in late January.

Schumacher accepted a position as assistant superintendent for Johnson City ISD. He will stay at Marble Falls Middle School to assist in the transition period.

During his 28-year education career, Koch has served in just about every position, including teacher, coach, K-12 principal, middle school principal, high school principal and superintendent.

“The one thing I have missed over the past few years is working closer with the students and staff at the campus level,” Koch said. “I feel very fortunate that this position has come available and will allow me to work on a great campus with an outstanding staff.”

Koch’s wife of 26 years, Donna, is a first-grade teacher in Early ISD, and their son, Aaron, attends eighth grade there as well.

Schumacher served as the Marble Falls Middle School principal for more than six years.

O’Connor said the district will put together a broad-based search committee in February or March to pour over the pool of expected candidates. He added the district expects to get a new principal named and on campus by May so he or she can help plan for the next school year.
