MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost 40-36 to Leander on Dec. 13 in a District 25-4A matchup.

Trailing 34-21 after three quarters, the Lady Mustangs went on a 9-1 run. The Lady Lions switched to a stall offense with three minutes left. Marble Falls sophomore post Reann Hall and senior forward Haley Stephens each scored buckets in the final 50 seconds to bring the Lady Mustangs to within 37-34.

But Leander junior guard Alisa Green hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to ice the game.

The Lady Lions set the tone early by taking a 16-8 lead in the first quarter.

Marble Falls head coach Chris Jost said the Lady Mustangs had too many turnovers and too many shots that simply did not fall in the basket.

As a team, Marble Falls connected on eight of 17 free throws, including three of nine in the first half, while Leander hit 13 of 21.

Jost was pleased with Hall’s play, noting the Lady Mustangs changed their offense to give more opportunities to the posts.

“I would say she didn’t get it enough,” he said. “When we penetrated down the middle, she did a good job.”

Jost gave his players a new defense Dec. 12, and he was happy to limit the Lady Lions to 40 points.
