AUSTIN — The Burnet High School girls basketball team got a 49-45 win against Austin High on Dec. 10.

“It was a team effort,” Lady Dawgs head coach Doug Messer said. “We played with urgency. We played with enthusiasm. We played like we’re capable of playing. We played with more consistent effort for four quarters.”

Burnet (7-5) led 12-10 after the first period and 28-18 at the half.

Seven different Lady Dawgs scored, making it difficult on the opponent to know who to guard.

Equally important, Messer said, was that the Lady Dawgs held the Lady Maroons’ top scorers under their averages.

“I think we can play with anybody if we have effort and efficiency,” he said. “We’re doing the little things. It was a great team win.”
