MARBLE FALLS — The Faith Academy boys basketball team’s 66-60 win against Lometa on Dec. 3 was historical for the Flames.
It was the first time Faith (1-0) won its season opener, head coach Randy Denton said. He was thrilled for his players.
“Considering we were behind, and Lometa was playing in their sixth game of the season,” he said. “We started one junior and four sophomores, and we have one senior and one junior. With the combination of all that, I thought it was a great win.”
Faith led 15-13 after the first quarter but was tied at 35-35 with Lometa at halftime.
By the end of the third period, the Flames led 53-42.
And when Lometa began to make a late run, Faith sophomore Rich Coleman made free throws to secure the victory.
The Flames used a full-court pressure defense about 80 percent of the contest that led to 20 points, Denton said.
“Early on, Lometa didn’t handle the pressure well,” he said.
Rollie Jackson led the Flames with 15 points followed by Sam Marrs with 11.
Games on Dec. 6 and Dec. 10 were cancelled because of bad weather and finals, respectively. The Flames return to the court to play Grandview at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at The Fire Pit, three miles east of Marble Falls off RR 1431.
