MARBLE FALLS — Each of the first three years of the Quality Inn-Marble Falls blanket and food drive has brought an increase in donations from the previous one.

And organizers are hoping the 2013 event exceeds the previous marks.

“This is something we always get excited about,” said Cindy Westbrook of Quality Inn. “We did get a late start getting the word out this year, but we think people know how important it is.”

People can drop off blankets and non-perishable food items 24 hours a day at Quality Inn, 1206 U.S. 281.

“There’s always somebody at the front desk who will take the donations,” Westbrook said.

She and manager Samuel Bhatka spearhead the drive. The blankets and food get dispersed among several area food banks and community centers, including LA Care in Burnet, The Helping Center of Marble Falls, Share the Harvest in Kingsland and the Burnet Community Center.

The Quality Inn staff also drop off some blankets at the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center in Marble Falls, which provides safe shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Bhatka started the drive four years ago as a way to give back to the community and say thank you for its support.

People can drop off items Dec. 4-23.
