FROM STAFF REPORTS

WIMBERLEY — The Burnet High School girls basketball team defeated Wimberley 51-39 on Nov. 19.

“We played with energy. We transitioned from defense to offense well. We attacked,” Lady Dawgs head coach Doug Messer said. “We weren’t getting back watching one person attack.”

Junior guard Riley Scott set the pace and the mindset for Burnet (5-3), he said, and he has enjoyed watching that dynamic with the team.

“I think (Scott) embraces that,” Messer said. “I think that everybody is on board with her. She demonstrates that out there, and they see that part. She demands from them, and they demand that from her.”

In addition, he credited the posts, specifically Sami Richter, Amber Sprankle, Lauren Bailey and Katelyn Pool, for their presence on both ends of the floor. Combined, they had 23 points.

“That’s something I think we’re going to have to have,” Messer said. “I think it’s going to make our guards play better. When you can be more balanced, you’re hard to defend if we can demand the ball at the post position.”
