ROUND ROCK — Marble Falls High School senior runner Jordan Wright finished his cross-country season in ways most athletes dream they would. In his final two races, he set new personal records.
The latest came Nov. 9 during the Class 4A State Cross Country Meet, where he finished fourth in 15 minutes and 58.85 seconds. Previously, his best time at Old Settlers Park, the site of the state meet, was 16:17 at the District 25-4A meet a year ago.
A week earlier, Wright broke the school record by clocking 15:10. The old record was 15:28 by Olympic silver medalist and former Mustang Leonel Manzano.
“It was great,” Wright said. “The whole season came together.”
Originally, he wanted to finish in the top 10. But with the cooler temperatures and race strategy from head coach Anthony Torns, Wright said he was able to perform even better.
“The conditions were awesome,” he said. “Great weather to run in. Coach Torns knows exactly what to do in practice. I can’t thank coach Torns and (assistant coach Amanda) Carpenter enough for working with me. They come up with workouts to benefit me. I can’t wait for track season.”
