MARBLE FALLS — Softball coach Rick Lauder is assembling a 12-and-under girls softball team.
Lauder, who guided the Austin Silver Travelers to three state titles and won 14 tournaments in a row, is beginning another Texas Terror team.
“I like 12-and-under because they can learn quickly,” he said. “You an be aggressive in the workouts. The ones who play are starting to love the sport. They want to take it to the next level.”
Lauder taught his four daughters to play softball. Lindsey Lauder was named the district’s Most Valuable Player when she played for Liberty Hill. Amanda was a Nike All-American. Katy and Kevyn played for Marble Falls High School during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Katy, nicknamed “Woody,” was the pitcher for three state tournament championship select teams that her father coached.
Lauder said be believes softball has helped his daughters become successful.
“It’s kind of a hobby, in a way,” he said. “It’s done a lot of good for my kids. They all got degrees and are doing well. I credit it as an important factor because it teaches focus, discipline and team work.”
Lauder said he hasn’t determined a cost but, “compared to most select teams, it’s extremely inexpensive.”
