FROM STAFF REPORTS
ALLEN — The Faith Academy cross-country team finished second at the Ram Classic hosted by Allen Academy on Oct. 5.
Sophie McCannon, the daughter of coach Steve McCannon, was the first-place individual medalist in 13 minutes 9 seconds. McCannon’s time compares with Abby Chaidez of Fairfield High School, a member of the University Interscholastic League’s Class 3A. Chaidez was sixth at the state meet last season in 12:21.45.
“Sophie ran relaxed out in front,” Steve McCannon said. “As she has learned over the years, even pace wins the race. She is putting herself in position to win state.”
McCannon said his team faced several of the same runners who will be at the Class 2A state meet of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

“We ran pretty well and dropped out times,” he said. “We will need to go to the next level to get on the podium.”
Fort Bend Christian won the event with 33 points to the Lady Flames’ 51.
QUOTABLE: ““I am really proud of these girls. They all do another sport or activity and work hard. Cross country is not easy. I appreciate their willingness to get uncomfortable and compete for the school,” coach Steve McCannon said.
