FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — The Burnet High School volleyball team defeated Lampasas 21-25, 25-13, 25-23, 15-25, 17-15 on Oct. 4.

“The girls played a phenomenal match, battling back and forth for every point,” Burnet head coach Salye Coles said. “Both teams squandered any possible opponent run with great defense.”

The Lady Dawgs were adjusting to a new lineup and a new offense, the coach said, because setter Sami Hogan missed the contest due to an injury.

Kasey Taylor took over at setter, which meant the team needed more from defensive specialists Megan Schmidt and Danielle Lindley.

“I am truly proud of these young ladies,” Coles said. “We started out slow and had a hard time gaining any momentum but turned the match around.”

The Lady Dawgs’ match against Liberty Hill on Oct. 8 is their “Play Pink” night. The team is raising money for breast cancer research.
