FROM STAFF REPORTS

HOUSTON — Former Burnet High School standout quarterback Stephen McGee was released Aug. 27 by the Houston Texans.

The Texans needed to trim their roster from 90 to 75 players per NFL rules.

McGee was released by the Dallas Cowboys last year after spending four years in the organization.

The quarterback, who graduated from Burnet in 2004, led the Bulldogs to two Class 3A state runner-up finishes in 2002 and 2003. One of his teammates was Jordan Shipley, now a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

McGee played football for Texas A&M University, where he helped the Aggies win back-to-back games against the University of Texas in 2006 and 2007.
