WEST MONROE, La. — Burnet County 4-H Horse Club member Zachary Haydon earned the 2013 Southern Regional 4-H Ranch Horse Division Championship during the regional competition July 30-Aug. 2 while riding his horse Wicked Smart.

Haydon finished strong in a number of events to win the ranch horse championship during the 2013 Southern Regional 4-H Championship Horse Show.

The competition was at the Ike Hamilton Convention Center.

Haydon earned a first place out of 22 competitors in the ranch roping competition. The youth also earned a second place in the ranch pleasure competition out of a field of 64 riders.

The southern regional meet draws 4-H competitors from 13 states. To get to the competition, riders must qualify through their state shows.

While Haydon finished in the top spot on Wicked Smart in the ranch roping competition, his brothers, Jarrett and Luke, tied for eighth on their horses, Chickashalena and Shirley Temper, respectively.

In the working ranch horse competition, Zachary Haydon finished sixth with Jarrett Haydon finishing 18th and Luke Haydon finishing 19th. Jessica Cowan of Lamar County earned the fourth-place spot in the same competition.

Zachary and Luke Haydon went seventh and eighth respectively in the ranch trail competition.

The Haydons said they couldn’t have made it to the Southern Regional 4-H Championship Horse Show without the support of several generous businesses and individuals, including SP Consulting of San Saba, Blair’s Western Wear of Marble Falls, Tractor Supply Co. of Marble Falls, The Moreau Team of RE/MAX Highland Lakes, Sean Turner of Highland Haven, 7-Bar Quarter Horses of Marble Falls, Sharon and Orville Cleverley of Meadowlakes, and Glenna Bell Orman of Burnet.
