CORPUS CHRISTI — Two members of the Marble Falls High School track-and-field team qualified for the Games of America with their finishes at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation state meet July 28.

Chase Martin was second in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.89 seconds in the girls 16-and-under division.

Cody Schulz also came in second but in the 200 meters in 21.38 seconds to set a new personal best. He competed in the boys 18-and-under division.

Coach Anthony Torns said he was pleased with the results.

“This was only the second time Chase has run in that race,” he said. “I told her, ‘Run 45 seconds,’ and she ran 45 seconds. Cody was in until the end.”

Martin was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, and Schulz elected not to run in the 400 meters because he would have had only 15 minutes of rest between events.

In the high jump, Lauren Loader finished fifth by clearing five feet. She clipped the bar on her first attempt at 5-2, her best finish at the height.

Schulz’s sister, Natalie, didn’t compete for precautionary reasons. She suffered a fall while competing in the Burnet County 4-H Horse Club’s Junior Rodeo on July 25.
