MARBLE FALLS — A man who simply walked to a store June 22 ended up in the hospital the next day in serious condition after somebody attacked him on the street between his residence and destination.
Police are seeking assistance on locating the alleged attacker.
“A 70-year-old man walked from his home to the store and turns around and gets home where he tells his family a big guy jumped him, robbed him and hit him on the back of the head,” said Marble Falls Police Capt. Glenn Hanson. “The man told his family he didn’t want to report it to the police.”
The victim went to bed sometime June 22, but when family members checked on him around 1 a.m. June 23 they found him unresponsive and called for EMS, Hanson said.
“They told EMS what had happened and (EMS) contacted the police,” the captain said.
The unconscious 70-year-old man was flown to St. David’s Hospital in Round Rock.
“It was very grave at first, but he’s made improvements,” Hanson said of the man’s condition. “He continues to receive treatment.”
The attack took place in the 1500 block of Ninth Street where the suspect demanded the elderly man’s money before striking him on the head. Police said the victim relayed the information to his family before going to bed and losing consciousness.
“If anybody has any information on the attack, they should contact us,” Hanson said.
