OBITUARY: James Dalton Vollmar, 80, of Buchanan Dam dies June 12, 2013

James Dalton Vollmar, 80, of Buchanan Dam, Texas, died June 12, 2013. He was born to Alfred and Anita Hilda (Gellerman Bankhead) Vollmar on Feb. 8, 1933, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Jim proudly served in the United States Navy and Air Force, retiring from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Bandera Rodeo Association, the PGA Association and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, bowling and rodeos.
If Jim were to summarize how he lived his life, he’d say: “I did it my way.”
Jim is survived by his wife of 10 years, Nancy Chesher Vollmar of Buchanan Dam; son, Michael J. Vollmar of Leander; daughter, Karen D. Vollmar Lawrence of Hutto; stepdaughters, Keatha A. Brown and Marliese J. Stripling; grandchildren, Shelby N. Vollmar, Logan Michael Vollmar, Travis D. Lawrence, Ashley D. Lawrence and Patrick D. Lawrence; great-grandson, Keegan Michael Lawrence-Craft; step-grandchildren, Clayton T. Bird, Dalton A. Stripling, Zachary S. Brown, Jeremy R. Brown and Emily R. Stripling; brothers, Lester (Maydell) Vollmar and Bert (Linda) Vollmar; sisters, Marcia N. Horton, Mabel (John D.) Hodges, Berdie (Al) Cansler and Laverne Oppermann; mother-in-law, Anna Mae Chesher; and nieces, Cheryl (Nathan) Peacock, Cindy (David) Broschat and Kristy Geyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a brother, uncles and aunts, father-in-law and a stepdaughter.
A celebration of Jim’s life is 2 p.m. June 22 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. Military honors will be given by the Highland Lakes Honor Guard.
A private inurnment will be held.
