BURNET — The Burnet High School baseball team will have a new head coach next season.

Jose Sierra has accepted the position after being the assistant coach for three years. Tim Perkins, who had the job of head coach, will remain on the football staff as the defensive line coach.

Athletic director Kurt Jones confirmed the changes May 30.

“Coach Sierra has a great baseball mind and a lot of energy and vision for success,” he said. “The kids look up to him and respect him. It was a unique situation where we had the guy right here with us.”

Jones said the Bulldogs appreciate all that Perkins has done for the program.

“He’s a great man. I have a ton of respect for him,” he said. “We don’t have any intention of him going anywhere. It’s just a little bit of a reshuffle of assignments in the boys program. He’s a good man, a good coach and a man of integrity. It was a move that could possibly make us better and felt like we could do it.”

Jones said he was still examining what Perkins’ spring coaching duties will be.

“He’s coached a little bit of everything,” he said. “He’s a strong basketball and track coach.”
