MARBLE FALLS — Two Marble Falls High School seniors have decided on new places to play their respective sports next year.
Quarterback and second baseman Mike Richardson will attend Blinn College in Brenham. Jessica Winn will play volleyball for Neumann University in Aston, Penn. Winn was a hitter and blocker for the volleyball team.
“I really enjoyed my experience in high school,” Richardson said. “Hopefully I can do the same in college. I think it’s a good two-year school, one of the best in junior colleges.”
Richardson set a state record for the most passing yards in a single game at 724. That mark ranks second nationally.
By going to Blinn, he will play for the same football coaching staff that molded Cam Newton. Newton led Blinn to the 2009 NJCAA National Football Championship. A year later, Newton led Auburn to the Division I-A national championship and was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers.
“I think it’s exciting getting to play in a program like that,” Richardson said. “That is exciting. I’m happy to do that. Obviously, they’re in the mix every year.”
This spring, the Mustang was honorable mention all-District 25-4A as a second baseman. Richardson said he is willing to change positions to play baseball.
“Anywhere they need players,” he said. “They lost a lot last year.”
