AUSTIN — Marble Falls High School senior discus thrower Rey Baltazar finished seventh at the Texas University Interscholastic League Class 4A State Track and Field Meet on May 10.Baltazar’s best launch came on his final throw of 149 feet 11 inches. He was the final thrower in the rotation of nine athletes.

“Out of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of young men across Texas, who didn’t get to be here, he was seventh,” Marble Falls throwing coach David Woods said. “The best of the four regions in Class 4A got here. That speaks volumes for him, the coaching staff and the program.”

The gold went to Joas Aguilar of Northland Richland Hills who had a mark of 179-01, while Jon Ford of McKinney North took silver with a heave of 165-06. J.W. Barnes of Georgetown earned the bronze with a mark of 160-07.

Baltazar, who is the Region IV discus and District 25-4A champion, now turns his attention to graduation and then playing football for Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

Woods said the Mustang set six different personal bests throughout the season.

“That’s unheard of,” he said. “He had continuous improvement over the entire season. I’m very proud of him. He’s one of the best athletes I’ve ever coached.”
