Johnnie Lou Young passed away after a long battle with COPD and cancer May 10, 2013. She was 83 years old.  Johnnie was born in Richland Springs in San Saba County on Jan. 2, 1930, to Monroe and Birdie (Newby) Grant.

She married Bill Young on Oct. 28, 1949. They lived in Killeen until Bill retired, at which time they moved to Burnet and made their home on Inks Lake.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Marie, Mona and Doris; and brothers James and Dub. Her husband, Bill, passed away in November 2001.

Johnnie is survived by her son, Burl Young and wife Cindy of Burnet; and daughter, Judy Miller and husband Bill Harris of Burnet. Johnnie, known affectionately as Meme, will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Heather Dale, Courtney Young, Nicole Miller, Christi Miller, Ryan Young and Kiley Leach. Her great-grandchildren are Jacoby Miller-Selem, Teagan Dale, Ayden Dale, Braydon William, Kason Williams and Wyatt Young. A great-great-grandson is due in August. Johnnie also is survived by brothers Odell and wife Jeannie of Dripping Springs and Bobby and wife Bet of Sun City; and brother-in-law Bob Young and wife Linda of Burnet. Perhaps the one who will miss her the most is her precious little Yorkie, Toby.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. May 13 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet. A graveside service and burial are 11 a.m. May 14 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet and will be officiated by Bill Harris.  Johnnie’s grandchildren will act as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff of Oaks Nursing Home and Seton Highland Lakes Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided during her last days.
